Friday, April 6 I will be back in Oakland for one of the baddest shows in the Bay area. HOODSLAM XX is going down this weekend and my ass will be right back in the front row doing the FTF fist pump! I lost my Action Coast Empire V-card last month at HOODSLAM XIX and have been chomping at the bit to get back to this show.
Needless to say I was pleased with the product. I always take the production value of Indy shows for granted. They don't have the budgets, manpower or arenas that the big boys are working with. Usually these shows can be made or broke by the in ring talent and nothing else. Not so in this case. Not only does the talent bring it in between the ropes but I was blown away by the attention to detail in this production. From the in ring gear, to geek friendly gimmicks(primary customers of the Indy world, LOL), live band and some serious promos. At times I was floored by the mic work going on. It made me wonder why I had to hear Dolph Ziggler twice a week when this only goes down once a month.
Despite the rally cry being Fuck The Fans, this was one of the most fan friendly shows I've seen. Almost gave me that old ECW, XPX feel. There was no ringside barriers or security guards keeping me away from the action. You might call it dangerous, I call it entertainment! They even have a play by play team to call the action and clue the newbies in on the back stories. I knew the history of all the feuds taking place.
Alright, enough of the boring section of the praise and to the meat. I was beginning to sound like the first hour of the Academy Awards(who gives a fuck about Best Art Direction?). This show was off the fuckin' chain! It wasn't Steamboat vs. Savage technical or an Angle clinic in there but that shit had me hooked all night. How often do you get to be 2 feet away from a high spot? How often does your guest almost get squashed by a guy in a green skull mask (sorry Stacie) ? I mean there is a guy dressed like Mega Man and a Chupacabra for Christ's sake! Where else do you find entertainment like that? On second thought I'm pretty sure that was happening some where on the other side of the bridge that night. I saw some performances that would put what TNA passes off as X-Division to shame. Chupacabra, Juice Lee, Ryu, Sheik gave performances to make you stop and take notice. I am salivating to see how they show out when a former X-Division champ is in the house. Former TNA/WWE Superstar "The" Brian Kendrick will be in the building at HOODSLAM XX! Already adding to a roster consisting of former WWE, Tough Enough and ECW competitors. This shit is gonna be sick. You can find me in the front row drinking the Kool-Aide this Friday in Oakland. If you are anywhere near the Bay his weekend I suggest you have your ass there. You have no idea what you have been missing. I will be back with a full breakdown of the show plus the Burning 5 this weekend. Until we meet again headbangers......
